We ask ourselves: "Are we doing the best that we can at all times
and are we treating everyone with dignity and respect?"

What started as a Hanukkah party in 1985 by Rose Lacher, with Rabbi Robert 'Jeremiah' Bergman z”l and Rabbi Moishe Engel, is now an enrichment program in support of Jewish individuals with special needs. Operated by Jewish Federation & Family Services, members, their families and community volunteers, come together on the third Sunday of each month to engage in fun, social activities that build relationships and foster learning of new skills. This 3-hour program is hosted by Temple Bat Yahm in Newport Beach.  The Jeremiah Society also provides members with safe, supervised recreational outings and lessons about Jewish history, values and culture.  We believe in embracing the uniqueness of each individual and encouraging independence and freedom of choice, so that members can reach their full potential.

On February 9th, we lost our precious friend and founder of The Jeremiah Society, Rose Lacher.
And, on April 7th, we lost her daughter and our friend Amy. You will be missed a great deal.
Memories of your smiles, laughter, and dedication.
Together again now.  We send our condolences to the Lacher family.

About Us
The Jeremiah Society is a non-profit organization for Jewish Special Needs individuals, supported by voluntary contributions and donations.  A three-hour program is held on the third Sunday of every month at Temple Bat Yahm in Newport Beach.  What started as a Chanukkah party in 1985 by Rose Lacher, with Rabbi Robert 'Jeremiah' Bergman of blessed memory, and Rabbi Moishe Engel of Chabad, provides an opportunity for Special Needs Individuals to socialize, be encouraged, learn about Jewish history and culture, and continue to thrive as capable adults in their community.  The Jeremiah Society embraces the uniqueness of each individual and encourages independence and freedom of choice within a framework of Jewish Culture and values.  Each person brings a valuable contribution and is very proud of his and her Jewish Heritage.
Our Monthly Programs
The programs promote recognition of each member, and their expressions are lovingly embraced.  Volunteers, teachers and professionals offer round-table peer support discussions such as overcoming bullying, to Jewish education and culture, morals and ethics.  Social and recreational activities include Israeli dancing, music, arts and crafts, holiday and birthday celebrations, barbeques, visits to synagogues, retirement homes, and Mitzvah projects.   We are a busy group!

Donate:  Your Support is Needed and Welcomed
Tributes and Donations:  In Memory of, in Honor of, or to Support Jeremiah Programs
We are faced with a unique challenge to continue our programs.  As state and federal budget dollars are threatened, resources for special needs programs remain scarce.  There are many ways you can help.  Become a volunteer, or be a blessing with a tax-deductible donation to The Jeremiah Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  Your generosity enables us to hire professional dance and music instructors, go on field trips and fund our programs.  Today, we especially need your good-heartedness to continue Jeremiah Programs and outreach.

Your contribution will be acknowledged and is tax deductible
